Celebration of the Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel at St. Mary's PU College
St. Mary’s PU College celebrated the Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel on 15th July 2026, Wednesday, in the college auditorium with great reverence and enthusiasm. This day is also celebrated as the Foundation Day of the Apostolic Carmel Congregation, which was founded by Venerable Mother Veronica, Foundress of the Apostolic Carmel, in 1868 at Bayonne, France.
The program commenced with the solemn prayer service and prayer song, which filled the atmosphere with peace and devotion, followed by a welcome dance. Ayisha Afnaz extended a heartfelt welcome and also introduced the chief guest Sr. Lenita Lobo A C to the gathering. She was welcomed with a potted plant by the college principal Sr. Maria Gracilda as a token of love and hospitality.
Adding joy to the celebration, the students presented a meaningful skit on Prophet Elijah and the prophets of Baal. The students highlighted the story of Elijah’s deep trust in God, which ended with a symbolic rain, celebrating the rain after a long drought. The program then moved to the account of Our Lady’s appearance to Saint Simon Stock, depicting the origin of the Brown Scapular and its meaning as a sign of Mary’s care. The program conveyed a valuable message about faith, love, humanity, and compassion to the gathering.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Guest, Sr Lenita Lobo, delivered an insightful message where she emphasized the importance of education, and urged the students to be connected to the Lord and also to their families. She encouraged the students to imbibe the virtues of Mother Mary, as Carmel is a garden and students are the flowers in the garden, and urged them to assimilate Carmelite values in their lives. She also enlightened the students on the deep significance of Mount Carmel, Mother Mary, and the Brown Scapular, as it is a shield of defence and a constant reminder of our Mother’s maternal protection. Her thought-provoking message was appreciated by all.
The program was graced by the esteemed presence of Principal Sr. Maria Gracilda.She congratulated all the students of Commerce and the lecturers in charge of the program, Mrs. Mamata and Mrs. Chaitra. In her address, she reflected on the visionary journey of Mother Veronica and her contribution to spreading the Congregation’s mission across the world.she compared life to climbing a mountain. Students were emphasised on the importance of education which is an uphill climb that requires efforts vision and perseverance to overcome obstacles and reach their highest potentials.The program was compered by Nashwa Fathima of I Commerce, and the vote of thanks was delivered by Mariyamma Raifa of I Commerce. The program ended with the singing of the College Anthem. As a festive gesture sweets were distributed to the students.
