ST MARY’S PUC – ORIENTATION PROGRAMME 2023-24
On 7th September ,2023 an orientation program was organized for students and lecturers of St Mary’s P.U College, Mangalore to provide valuable insights and guidance on various aspects of academic and professional life. The program was conducted by distinguished Resource person Rev Dr. Anto Nelson OCD who possesses extensive expertise in the field of Philosophy. The orientation program was divided into two sessions. The first session in the morning for the students and the second session for the lecturers in the afternoon.
The objective of the orientation program was to facilitate a smooth transition for the students and enhance the knowledge and skills of lecturers. The program commenced at 9 am with a prayer song. It began with a warm welcome address by Mrs Mamatha (English Lecturer) who introduced the Resource person and highlighted the importance of the orientation.
Fr. Anto Nelson OCD delivered an insightful keynote presentation on making students realize their own capability. He urged students to take new challenges so that they can discover their full potential. He dealt with the fallowing topics, ”You are the world, self confidence, face challenges, do your part to achieve your dreams etc. ‘’. He conducted a series of interactive sessions with amusing games which led students to focus on their ability in achieving the goal. He also shared some motivational and inspiring videos that set a models to all the students in their academic life. The session came to an end by sharing some famous quotes of Barack Obama – “If you dream to fly with eagles, don’t waste time in swimming with ducks.”
It says, never surrender, quit or kneel before your problems .People who did that never made the grade in life.
The vote of thanks was rendered by student council members – Sara Nihaf (College President) from commerce and Aysha Minna (College Secretary) from Science .
Post Lunch the session was conducted to the lecturers which began at 2 p.m. . Sr. Sahaya Mary the college principal prayed and welcomed the Resource person Rev Dr. Anto Nelson OCD. For Lecturers he spoke on ;make your students as your own’. He provided all the lecturers with essential information and resources to excel in their roles. Lecturers were introduced to various concept of teaching. He emphasised on the Role of teachers in the classroom, different methodology and concepts of education by quoting famous lines by Martin Luther king—
“If you can’t fly, then run
If you can’t run , then walk
If you can’t walk , then crawl
But by all means keep moving.”
He advised all Lecturers to be a mentor to their students. It was an enriching session to all the lecturers.
